4 Days

I'm back from a week at the beach and it was soo lovely, unfortunately I returned to a Hurricane. After two days without power I'm back. It just hit me today that in exactly 4 days I will be on a plane to Paris. This thought makes me excited and freaked out in equal parts. But these pictures only inspire me.

Poolside

The two days of solid rain here on the east coast have me feeling a little down. I can't stop dreaming of sunny days poolside/ beachside. One person comes to mind when I think of days like that, Slim Aarons. He so perfectly captures the joy and energy of a lazy day lounging by the pool with friends and family, he once said his job was "photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places". Can you think of a better job? I love his work, and it also goes with this 1960s kick I'm on thanks to Mad Men.

Better Late than Never

So, I know I'm a little (realllly) late to the game with this post. But I just discovered Mad Men. I've been wanting to watch it forever and it finally came on Netflix Instant Play, so now I have no excuse not to watch it. And Oh. My. God. its sooo good. Its really a good thing I found it during the summer other wise I would never get any work done.

More than anything though I am obsessed with the set decoration, production design, and prop styling. I see things in Don's office that I want to go out and buy for my house, especially these fabulous bar glasses,

his cigarette holder (I want it and I don't even smoke, so I have no idea what I would use it for),

and all the other fabulous furniture on the show!

I can't even begin to explain how obsessed I am with Don's office in general.

I love the chairs the are across the desk from Don's chair. don't even get me started on the a-ma-zing sofa and chair set, and the fabulous lamps that flank the sofa. I'm in love.

And when I saw this wall paper I freaked, I don't even know what was going on in the scene because I was so obsessed with the wall paper.

I want a job as the Mad Men set decorator's, Amy Wells, assistant. She is a genius.

Bonfires and S'mores

So I know my posts have been a little lame lately, I blame it on summer. Especially now that we're in August I want to take advantage of the nice weather before fall sets in. All I want to do is be by the beach all day (I wouldn't say no to the first pool pictured either) and grill some steaks or a nice piece of fish for dinner. After dinner, once the sun has set and its started getting a little colder, I would light a nice fire and we could all roast s'mores for dessert. Having a nice outdoor area where you can entertain in the summer is the best. I think if I had any one of theses backyards I would have people over every night!

Ikea

I love Ikea, I could easily spend a whole day wandering around their show room and marketplace (and stopping for a plate of their Swedish meatballs of course). They make some really cute stuff, and you can't beat their prices. I feel like the Ikea website really doesn't do the brand justice, because to truly get the Ikea experience (and see what actually looks good) you need to go to the store.

I made a trip there yesterday to pick up some last minute stuff for my room (lights, nicknacks, Swedish meatballs). And as always Ikea did not disappoint. In fact, it made me want to start redecorating other rooms in my house now that my room is done!

Here are a few things that really caught my eye when I was there yesterday. I couldn't find everything I liked in the store on their website, so I guess I have an excuse to make another trip to Ikea!

Alexander McQueen at the Met

I recently went to the Met to see the breathtaking Alexander McQueen exhibit called Savage Beauty. It was absolutely amazing, McQueen was truly an artist. He pushed the envelope of fashion, and really turned it into an art form. The exhibit was also amazingly curated, it was so atmospheric and did a fabulous job of showcasing his clothing, shoes, and accessories. There is no way that any description I give this exhibit would do it justice, so I'll let the clothes do the talking.  It closes on Sunday, but I really can't recommend it enough!
